With the table set and my grandmother taking her usual spot at the head of the table, I sat down. Two whooshes of air made my fringe flutter and when I looked up, I found a brother seated on either side of me. Uh-oh.

"Is there any turkey?" Paul asked hopefully.

"No," I said as politely as I could muster. He was the reason why we had to have chicken for the past three Christmases. There was no way I was going to have chicken—let alone turkey—on Christmas day. I silently pined for baked glazed ham. One day…

"This looks delicious," my mother said, and if I hadn't been sandwiched between two brothers I would have fallen out of my chair at hearing my mother compliment someone.

Obviously I wasn't alone in my shock as my family all stared at her. My dad was open-mouthed even, it was that shocking.

"Ah, do you guys say a prayer before eating?" Andrew asked uncertainly.

"Um…" My family wasn't religious and I hadn't realised that Jake's family might be. Talk about awkward.

"Rub-a-dub-dub thanks for the grub," said Grandma.

After that very godly prayer all hands were on deck, reaching and passing bowls and tongs around as we eagerly served ourselves and dug in.

"Oh my God," I moaned around the most perfect steak in the world.

Andrew grinned in response. I suppose I'd just given the best compliment ever to a budding chef.

I looked hopefully at Jake. "Can you cook like this?"

"Only breakfasts," he said with a wink. I was immediately reminded of this morning's pancakes and cock in bed. I blushed so hard that the tips of my ears burned. So not something you want to think about while your family sits down for Christmas lunch.

"That's because he takes them to expensive restaurants then loves them and leaves them after breakfast," Andrew said in between devouring the buttered corn he held.

Paul choked on something across the table and my mother slapped his back.

"Andrew—" I started, but Jake cut me off.

"I've not left Hayley, have I?"

He did have a point. Over a month ago I had accepted my relationship with Jake would probably be a short-term romance. The girls on the team—not to mention other teams—had made that perfectly clear to me. But he had surprised us all that first night in the hospital. He'd visited after midnight and nervously asked me to be his girlfriend. It was quite sweet really, and I basked in the glory of being his first long-term girlfriend. I mean look at him, he's really hot and he's mine.

"Not yet," Andrew mumbled so quietly that I might have been the only one to hear him.

I sighed. He too had a good point. This was new ground for Jake. He could still leave at any time. My stomach turned and the steak I had almost orgasmed over might as well have turned to ash in my mouth.

As if he'd sensed my doom and gloom, Jake placed a hand on my thigh and squeezed. He kissed the side of my head and whispered, "I'm in it for the long haul, Princess.
